Overview

Fettes College is one of the most iconic buildings in Edinburgh.  Our remit is to preserve and maintain all the buildings within the campus. 

Our relationship with Fettes College, which includes annual maintenance has been in place for over 10 years. 

We have worked in conjunction with Fettes over the years to ensure all work is completed to a high standard within agreed times and budgets. 

Roof Assessment

Advanced Roofing were initially contracted by Philip Houghton, Fettes Estate Manager to carry out an initial survey to maintain the building. 

After providing a descriptive survey including many challenging access issues.  We agreed costs to carry out proactive and reactive maintenance to the many roofs, gutters and downpipes within the campus. 

We use only traditional materials where required to thoroughly maintain this wonderful structure. 

Fettes College is one of the most iconic buildings in Edinburgh.  We have been entrusted to maintain and repair these exemplary roofs for over a decade and feel extremely proud and privileged to do so. 

The Roofing Works in Action

Advanced Roofing have an annual contract to provide assessments and maintenance.  As such, the works have been carried out in stages. 

The initial stage of any roofing works is to erect scaffolding as per health and safety guidelines.  The scaffolding is necessary to give safe access to the challenging roof sections. 

Complete re-roofing has taken place on many of the boarding blocks incorporating Westmoreland slates and traditional ornate leadwork ensuring a sympathetic finish to this wonderful structure. 

The Process and Insight

Advanced Roofing source the materials that are of the same type as the original roofing.  This way we can ensure a result of a visually consistent roof.  For Fettes roofing we matched Westmoreland slate achieving the original appearance following re-roofing.
